Good/Bad Website Smackdown: Yahoo vs. Spotify

Image
The bad website design I have chosen for this smackdown is the website of Yahoo.com. When first entering Yahoo, you see far too much for an introductory tab. Too much information for one page! With this, I am blinded by the brightness of the screen! This design could be fixed through implementing specific tabs for fields of news, such as sports, politics, or science tabs. This would allow people to see what they are actually looking for instead of scrolling endlessly through the cluttered Yahoo main page. Along with this, making the main page far less bright will always be a beneficial thing for any website. Overall, Yahoo.com is a commonly used website and - while being a news and informative website - this level of clutter should not have been overlooked for so long.                     The good website design I have chosen for this smackdown is ...

Technology Blog #4: Learning to Learn in Law Enforcement

Image
Chapter three of The Connected Educator: Learning and Leading in the Digital Age chimes in with the concept of 'learning to learn'. The introduction goes onto explain that while teachers may support initial leaps in learning, it is the learners who must be the ones to initiate learning for the rest of their lives during and after their first leaps in initial education. Knowledge for practice is the knowledge taught in hopes of development in professional and academic manners, to increase ones fluency in learning. Knowledge in practice is the phase where learners try and create and connect the dots for learning and overall knowledge, and the knowledge of practice is the final phase where learners can use new information to create those connections on their own and try to improve on their own. People must also learn to unlearn and relearn information effectively, as information changes rapidly.    ...

App Smackdown 2: Trello

Image
App Smackdown #2: Trello                          I chose Trello for my second App Smackdown because I frequently find myself returning to the web-based system for a variety of reasons. This app is easily-accessed through mobile and stationary technologies. As long as someone has access to the internet they will have access to Trello. Trello takes planning and organization to another level compared to many planning apps, as it has more features and accessibility than most apps I have come across in my time exploring and using the internet. There is little to no tech-savvy skills required, as Trello is easily explained and operated!                         For academic, and professional use, the usefulness of Trello are abundant. For my future career in law enforcement - and ALL careers in general - plans and goals will be made that you m...

Technology Blog #3: Tools For Connected Learning Regarding Law Enforcement

Image
Chapter five of  The Connected Educator: Learning and Leading in a Digital Age  focuses on how technological tools can be used to improve learning, and the process of setting these tools up for success. The first and obvious improvement tip is to use the same (or at least similar) usernames and passwords whenever possible for all of these different tools and sites. These tools are used for purposes of documentation, collaboration, and extending one's knowledge. Documenting websites effectively is difficult, as there are a near endless amount of sites to visit! For documentation, a website called delicious.com is helpful, as it can help keep links and websites you have visited or wish to visit for the future. Delicious can also help find websites and information that may interest you through other users and their saved links, allowing for even further information gathering! Diigo is another documentation option, and a likely...

App Smackdown: Obsidian Notes

Image
Obsidian Notes Smackdown On Youtube                          I chose Obsidian Notes for my App Smackdown because I myself have found great success in using this app in personal use. This app is both a web-downloadable app for pc, and downloadable through app stores on phones. This app makes taking notes easier, as well as more cohesive! For advanced use, tech skills may be required, but for most people this is never going to be an issue. Seeing the graph view alongside all the nodes truly helps those who struggle with standard note-taking thrive in an academic and information-driven environment.                         For academic and professional use, the benefits are one in the same. Students and professionals alike can take notes in a streamlined and neat fashion, while also not spamming large walls of text that they will suffer reading bac...

Technology Blog #2: Building A Connected Learning Community For My Future Career

Image
Chapter six of The Connected Educator: Learning and Leading in a Digital Age is entirely dedicated to how one can build a connected learning community. The author brings up how online sites were the go-to for meeting and learning from new people. For the author, the specific site was Newton, a science board for like-minded scientific individuals. On these sites, people can discuss anything for the specific reason of the site's existence; the possibilities are endless! The networks you build between people throughout your lives are essential for future information gathering. Building such a network is not just about following everything you can on social media apps such as Instagram or Reddit, but building meaningful relationships with those you connect with.               To build a successful personal learning network, you need to find the best people to help you in whatever field you w...

Technology Blog #1: Developing a Connected Learning Model in Relation to My Major

Image
Chapter two of The Connected Educator: Learning and Leading in a Digital Age is primarily about how to and why creating learning networks for personal gain in fields such as education are beneficial in the modern day. Learning networks prior to modern internet and media for educators were through workshops provided by the schooling system and regional authorities themselves. These are referred to as professional learning networks. If something was not taught directly by the specific mandatory systems of which someone was receiving their career education information from, there was not a likely chance that any learning past what the career's set up educational system directly taught. People would have to go out of their way and search out untaught information that could take from hours to weeks... if there is any success in the search at all! Despite the struggles of the past, the current age has removed this to a great extent ...
